MUSIC AT INDIAN HOLLOW

The primary music program marks the beginning of many musical opportunities available in the Commack School District. The music program at Indian Hollow is designed to help students discover their musical potential and encourages them to use it!

In grades K-2, students are introduced to the five elements of music: melody, harmony, form, timbre and rhythm. To solidify these concepts, the students sing, listen, play instruments, move and compose their own music. There is a focus placed on developing students' ability to read, write, perform analyze and produce music in a creative way while incorporating math, literacy skills, social studies and science. Each class meets once a week for a forty-minute fun-filled music lesson.

The music room is equipped with an abundance of Orff instruments (non-pitched percussion and barred instruments,) a piano, an interactive smartboard and ample space for movement activities.

Music is one of the many ways through which Indian Hollow students can feel united and work as a team. Every child at Indian Hollow has the opportunity to perform with his or her grade level during the Art and Music Celebration in the spring.

Indian Hollow School Song

Dear Indian Hollow we love you,

Our hearts will ever be true,

We join our hands in friendship,

Beneath the white and blue.

Within these halls of learning,

Our glad young voices ring.

Eternal love and loyalty

To Indian Hollow we sing!
